”This portal is the result of a cultural digitization project initiated by Ets “The Symposium of the Muses” among the special initiatives of the “Sorrentine Peninsula Arturo Esposito ®” Award, which after twenty-five editions increases its reputation and the image of an “umbrella brand”, producing shows, cultural events, social products connected to the world of media, of territorial marketing and artistic communication.

Through photography the initiative intends to enhance the landscape, the environment, the cultural heritage providing a measure of the things, of the people, of the res (and therefore of the places ) characterized by the creative representation rather than by the objective description.

This means probing the intimate bond that connects man ( as an individual or collectivity ) to the natural environment that surrounds him.

The photographic space and the geographical one have always been attentive to the introspective reality, to the territorial lived experience of the man.

“The Grand Tour” is therefore a journey into the Beauty, conceived as a “hidden treasure of the economy”, according to the words used exclusively for the project by the journalist and writer Roberto Napoletano.

The portal starts with a series of digital initiatives in line with the general objectives of promoting, protecting and enhancing run by the “Sorrento Chart”, the manifesto conceived for celebrating the twenty-five years of activity of the cultural association expressed in a holistic vision through the guidelines of environment, tourism and culture. 

Here starts an authentic “Journey into the Beauty”, with a “synecdoche” project according to the semiologic model theorized by Umberto Eco ( in which the visitor can deepen very particular “reading paths” that predispose him “to listen with his eyes” what the photos intend to tell).

With this virtual exhibition dedicated to Sorrento by the Sicilian international photographer Giuseppe Leone starts a process of cultural digitization that will soon touch also other places, will cross new expressions, will intercept different artistic contributions. 

The present portal will therefore constitute a post modern contemporary gallery, a real open space (continuously in progress), in which speaking of travel is equivalent to probing an epistemological essence in an absolutely transversal way, thus the itinerary will become the aim and consequence of artistic knowledge. 

To accompany the visitor through the exhibition of the famous Ragusan artist there will also be descriptions of the represented places, through the use of audiovisual tools as a type of story linked to the odeporic experience. 

Thus starts the challenge of a journey meant as an interdisciplinary contamination of knowledges, ideas and above all as the possibility of looking at the Beauty around us with new perspectives and new hopes.
